Dual diploma
The Aerofix Aviation Academy - TU Sofia Dual Diploma integrates the EASA Part 66 Modules required for B1.1 and/or B2 Aircraft Maintenance Technician licensing with a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering from TU Sofia.
This dual-path approach equips you with a powerful combination of practical, hands-on technical skills demanded of licensed aircraft technicians and the analytical and managerial capabilities expected of Aeronautical Engineers. Graduates emerge with both the professional qualifications to work immediately in aircraft maintenance and the academic foundation for leadership and advanced engineering roles.
Career paths might include any of the following options:
1. Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technician (LAMT)
A Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technician (LAMT) is a multifaceted professional—part technician, troubleshooter, manager, and safety guardian all in one.
You will begin your career in Base Maintenance (in a hangar), mastering the intricate systems of the technologically advanced aircraft operated by airlines worldwide.
For those who thrive outdoors, once you've built the necessary knowledge, skills, and earned your managers' trust, you can transition to Line Maintenance. There, you'll tackle demanding physical challenges in all weather conditions, working under time pressure with full responsibility for ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft carrying hundreds of passengers.
If you remain in a hangar environment and thanks to your double diploma you will also be fast-tracked into a CAT-C level, where you will be able to certyfy the airworthiness of the whole aircraft after performing a heavy maintenance programme.
Sound like an inspiring challenge?
A Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technician's developement track:
As your career progresses, multiple pathways open depending on your strengths and interests:
Leadership Track – If you excel at planning and people management, advance to Team Leader or Line/Base Maintenance Manager at an MRO facility, overseeing teams of technicians to ensure flawless operations.
Specialist Track – If you prefer working independently or in small teams, consider becoming a "flying spanner"—traveling the world on board aircraft while keeping them in peak condition—or work as a specialist contractor, moving between cities and clients who need your expertise.

2. Aeronautical Engineer
As an aeronautical engineer enhanced by genuine, hangar-floor practical experience gained at Aerofix Aviation Academy, you'll become a highly sought-after professional. Few technicians possess the training and academic foundation to advance into specialized roles such as Maintenance Planning at MROs, Continuing Airworthiness Management (CAMO), airline Maintenance Control and Planning, or positions in Quality, Compliance, Audit, Sourcing, and Engineering. Conversely, even fewer engineers have spent meaningful time in a hangar to understand operational realities firsthand.
As a well-rounded professional, you'll embody the best of both worlds: bringing the analytical rigor and theoretical knowledge of an aeronautical engineer combined with the practical problem-solving skills, adaptability, and operational insight of a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technician. This unique dual perspective makes you invaluable to employers seeking professionals who can bridge the gap between engineering theory and maintenance reality.
